Public Art

We are a newly formed partnership of two artists based in Hartland in North Devon.
Our practical skills are derived from many years of working as printmakers and, in Merlyn’s case, as a professional painter, and in Rod’s specialist skills in woodworking.

What we would like to be doing
We want commissions for public art work and we are in a position to present proposals either on a competitive or on a speculative basis.

What we have competence for
We are capable of generating and carrying through to completion decorative and pleasing artwork at almost any scale, from book scale through to designs for entire buildings.

What we have
Our skills in design are supplemented and enhanced by good computer skills (Adobe Photoshop CS3 + typographical skills), understanding of typography, photography (digital and film), printing technology, project management and not least, printmaking.
Our work as printmakers has received recognition at a national level within the UK and we are currently tutors of woodblock printmaking at West Dean College, Chichester, West Sussex.

Our work up until Jan 2008
During 2007 we entered two competitions for design of public art works and have achieved success with both. The first competition was for a design to be applied by volunteer labour to a bleak concrete wall, 160 metres long by 2 metres high, on the main road approach to Bideford, North Devon. Our entry, entitled Birdwall, consisted of a painted design involving images of all the different kinds of marine and estuary birds which are such a feature of the area.

Our second success was for the design for 6 acoustic panels for the main auditorium of the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham, Bath, Wiltshire. The project involved the complete refurbishment of a Victorian primary school hall, where the purpose of our work was to enhance the interior.
